HILSEN: May/June 2017 - Jr. Lodge News Teaching the Next Generation:
Gyda Varden Jr. Lodge received $500 to help ‘Teach the Next
Generation’ from the Sons of Norway Foundation Helping Hands
to Children Grant. This grant will provide funds to help bring
young Norwegians together to learn more about their heritage.
They will learn about the country of Norway, what it means to
be Norwegian, activities Norwegian youth participate in, music
and dance of Norway and last but not least the food from Norway.
We will be updating and purchasing supplies and materials to help
teach the youth in these areas with the money we received.
Mary Ann Johnson and I are leading the Jr. Lodge with help from
parents of the new Jr. Lodge members.
"We are so excited to have received this grant! A big thanks
is due to our president, Sue Bjornstad, for helping us to put
the grant together. With the help of this grant money, we are
going to be able to bring fun and exciting projects and experiences
to our Junior members that will help to inspire a love of Norway!
We hope that our Junior members will be able to learn not only
about their own heritages and histories from Norway, but also
about all of the exciting experience and events that take place
in Norway today."

Lodge members and friends were invited to a kick-off event during
the Grand Forks Greenway Ski Day on February 4th.
day was filled with cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding

It was a perfect day to enjoy very Norwegian outdoor activities!
The Jr. Lodge then met on February 11th for its first formal club
We (officially!) gained two new Heritage members, Taylor and Lauren
Together with Heritage members, Mia Narvaiz and Keiley Sethre,

The Junior Lodge gathers each month to learn about the culture
of Norway. Folk dancing, singing, crafts, language, folklore
and skits are some of the activities through which we celebrate
our heritage. A Jr. Lodge Director can do what seemed to me
impossible to do in a narrative, a TV show, or even by watching
someone else dance & sing. It would be an excellent thing
