The President Margy Gabrielsen
SON_icon    A short profile

A bit about me. My parents were both 100% Norwegian. Dad immigrated at age 22 -- in 1926. My mother's parents immigrated in 1883 to Dakota Territory. The train brought them as far as Grafton, North Dakota. A wooden cart pulled by two oxen -- with a cow in tow -- carried them west until they came to good land that was not yet claimed -- where they homesteaded. They ended up north of Devils Lake in the Garske area. (A long journey because they traveled way west, but work their way back to where they thought the soil was better.)

My husband Tom is also 100% Norsk! His father immigrated to Detroit, Michigan when he was 16. His older sister was already there. Tom’s mother grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but when the copper mines were closing down, her family moved to Detroit. The two of them met at a church function in Detroit.

Tom and I both graduated from college and are “Retired” Teachers. Even though we are 30 year members of Gyda Varden, we will have to do some reacquainting. The past half dozen years have been full of lots of grandchildren’s activities.

So I hope we will get to know each other better in 2015, Margy Gabrielsen
