Fra Presidenten:

December is the month that just doesn’t come fast enough for children, but maybe comes too quickly for adults. Our culture has filled the Christmas Season with lots of festivities, most of which are good, some even inspirational. I find that I occasionally need to remind myself of the “The Reason for the Season”.

December too is the month we usually expect to have snow and a ‘White Christmas”! With the thought of snow comes the thought of skiing; and at Sons of Norway comes the appeal to continue to support “Ski for Light” This was discussed and approved at our November Board Meeting.

The mission of “Ski for Light” is to enhance the quality of life and independence of visually or mobility-impaired adults through a program of cross-country skiing. Under the leadership of Doug Boose and Judy Dixon, plans are in high gear for this event. The next “Ski for Life” International will be held at Shanty Creek Resorts near Bellaire, Michigan. The dates are Sunday, January 24 through Saturday, January 30, 2016. There are also nine Regional “Ski for Light” organizations. Some of them have summer activities as well.

During my growing up years, Christmas vacation was often when Dad would take out our skis and get us fired up to do some skiing. He grew up in Norway and said he skied everywhere he went. Ski Hills we tried were near Devils Lake, ND and La Ravere, Canada. (My brother & sister became good skiers; - - -me not so good!) Skogfjorden near Bemidji, MN, and Sugar Brook at Grand Rapids, MN were places we tried later. We did some tobogganing at Lutsen, MN. One of my most embarrassing ski experiences was when I rode the ski tow up the beginner’s hill in Colorado. I did not think about the altitude change. Half way up, I decided I was high enough. I was very light headed and couldn’t even stand up. The ski patrol came rushing over, loaded me on their sled, and gave me a ride to the bottom. (It’s the only round of applause I ever got for skiing.)

Thanks to the potato peelers (men) and lefse making crew. I think Karen K. and Irene S. were the organizers and got a lot of people involved. It was another successful event! Thanks to all of you!

Thanks to Cindy Dahl for organizing all the Cultural Day events.

Thanks to Mark & Sue Bjornstad for the recognition program for the six new “Golden Members”. (Members for 30 Years)

Everett K. explained the “Sign of the Order” which was a good reminder for me,- - -maybe others as well. Thanks, Everett. We ended the meeting with a humorous poem/table prayer by Darrell N. BE SURE TO READ ABOUT ALL THE COMING DECEMBER EVENTS IN THIS ISSUE.

May peace and harmony prevail within our lodge.

With Christmas season upon us and the world in a state of unease, let’s think about the above words we hear at our lodge meetings.
These shouldn’t be just words. They should be true to our members, lodges, districts and international organization.
Peace is defined as freedom from disturbance, quiet and tranquility. Harmony is agreement; accord, harmonious relations.

What a beautiful message for all of us to embrace. May your Christmas and New Year be one of peace and harmony.
